Is love not important anymore?

I feel like my family, my friends don’t give my significant other any value.

Me and my boyfriend (trying to surf)

I moved to Japan for University almost one year ago. While I was studying I met who I believe to be the love of my life. Actually it was through a dating app – the first reason I feel my family do not give him any value.

He was from Japan but living in Australia, and for the next 4 months we got to know each other and started dating even before we met. I was struggling a lot with uni and work in Tokyo and was feeling overwhelmed.

My boyfriend was working a farm job however they were refusing to pay him for the work he was doing and he was struggling to pay rent let alone buy a flight back to Japan.

Fast-forward to March 2024 he finally manages to get a flight home, and we plan to visit his family in the countryside before living together in Tokyo. Meanwhile I am in a tough situation, I have little money, I have a scholarship to upkeep so can’t spend much time working, and am not enjoying the city life.

He arrives and he’s perfect, he treats me perfect, buys me stuff even though I know he doesn’t have much money, he’s good looking in real life, we really love each other after spending a lot of time together.
